![]() ![]() Later that week a few of us piled into Trevor’s red Saturn and made what was the first Taco Tico run for any of us in years. One Monday morning, my buddy Trevor reported he’d encountered a still-operating Taco Tico tucked at the edge of a shopping center on Lexington’s less than fashionable north side while exploring Lexington in his car. I was in high school, and my friends and I had just gotten our drivers licenses. It was the late nineties, and I thought that was the end of the story for Taco Tico, at least in Kentucky.įast forward to 2002. At any rate, Tacos Too lasted for three or four years before shutting down. I can’t find any information about Tacos Too online, but I suspect it was probably the brainchild of a single franchisee looking to circumvent franchise fees. A few Taco Ticos converted to something called Tacos Too before closing for good. It was the mid nineties when most of the Lexington area Taco Ticos closed for business, while new Taco Bell locations opened at every imaginable location. ![]() With the Pepsi money flowing like a shaken two liter bottle fueling Taco Bell’s expansion and marketing, Taco Tico struggled to keep up. Taco Bell’s national domination began in 1978 when Glen Bell sold Taco Bell to PepsiCo. Both chains grew steadily into the seventies, mostly in separate regional markets, both giving many Americans their first taste of Mexican food. Taco Tico had beaten Taco Bell to the Lexington market by about ten years, and in the early nineties Taco Bell was just starting to catch up.ĭan Foley opened the first Taco Tico in Wichita, Kansas in 1962, the same year Glen Bell opened the first Taco Bell in Downey, California. Taco Bell was relatively new to the area, having entered the market in 1986. (I also had more than one birthday dinner at Chi-Chi’s, but that’s another blog entry.) At the time, there were a roughly equal number of Taco Tico and Taco Bell locations in and around Lexington. ![]() My parents, having lived in Southern California in the previous decade had gained an appreciation or quick and cheap Mexican food, and would often take us to either place for an inexpensive, fun family dinner. I also meet one-on-one with my boss to celebrate what God's doing in our ministries and troubleshoot any problems I'm facing. These meetings help us stay informed about what's happening in each area of ministry as well as the church as a whole. Staff meetings and one-on-one's with my boss: Each week, I attend a weekly staff meeting with my colleagues at church. Set-up and clean-up: Every program also requires room set-up and clean-up. Still others I use it for formal training. Other weeks I use it for meeting one-on-one with leaders. Some weeks I use this time for recruitment. Since I know this, each week I spend time investing in adult leaders. Investment in adult leaders: Good ministry cannot happen by yourself. This gives me an opportunity to interact with teen's families and to show teens that I care about their lives outside of church as well. This prep time can be spent on a variety of things including reading background material to prepare for whatever it is I'm teaching on, writing a talk or discussion, reading the book I'm discussing with one of the girls I mentor, creating experiential activities, or even buying supplies for games or experiential activities. The other two are with teens I want to check-in with, follow-up on something with, or need to meet with for something like a Leadership Team Interview, discussion prep, or a one-on-one debriefing of our summer mission trip. My goal is one such meeting each week day work day, which amounts to four of these meetings a week. Time with teens outside of weekly programming: In any given week, I also meet with a lot of teens one-on-one. Time with teens in weekly programs: In my context, I lead three weekly gatherings with youth each week – Sunday school, an hour long Leadership Team meeting, and a Wednesday night gathering. So here's what an average week as a youth pastor entails: And from random people on vacation whenever I find myself in the “What do you do?” conversation. While it made me chuckle, I couldn't help but think, “This confusion is real.” People really don't understand what it is we do.Īnd this is true not just of people outside the church, but inside the church as well.Īt each of the three churches I've worked at, there's come a point when I've had to explain to the teens I serve that I actually work for the church. Earlier this year, this youth minister meme began showing up everywhere in social media: ![]() ![]() ![]() We’ve tested these rods to over 800 whp and 9k RPM so they’ll handle just about everything you can through at them! The unique design of the X beam allows for less windage (oil slinging and air displacement) in the crankcase reducing frictional losses. Element Tuning engines are fitted with seriously stout Pauter Machine forged Asymmetrical “X” beam connecting rods using ARP 2000 bolts. We experienced OEM rod failure under racing conditions in the 350 ft/lbs of torque range. While these rods are perfectly suited for OEM hp levels, when the power increases above 300 and RPM exceeds 7500 they are no longer reliable. The Achilles heal to our beloved OEM FA20 motors have been the OEM connecting rods. This is enough oil pressure to safely support 500+ whp! What we do, we keep close at hand but it’s not one thing but a series of modifications and the blueprint of our engines that allows us to keep over 80 psi of oil pressure under street conditions and over 70 psi under racing conditions. The OEM oil pumps that are fitted to the BRZ/FRS and also the WRX (which is 14mm compared to 12mm) does not provide adequate volume to support the required oil pressure and therefore an bearing failure is eminent with any engine that doesn’t address the lack of oil pressure.Įlement Tuning engines are the only engines to solve this problem! While we hoped we could simply install a bigger oil pump, which we did test, it was still not enough to get oil pressure high enough to be reliable on this boxer engine. What happens to oil pressure when you increase the oil port size? What happens to you oil volume requirements when you need to feed two journals with one main? Guess which one failed? Unlike the EJ series of Subaru motors this engine does not have a “main priority” oiling system and therefore critical oil pressure isn’t directed to the engine bearings first. Why? Because it has to feed two rod journals where all others only feed one rod journal. The third main from right to left has a larger oil port. Look at the FA20 crank mains and the rod journals and you should spot something unique where we oil starved the rod bearing. ![]() ![]() While this may be OK for NA power levels it’s nowhere near the reliable pressure we need for a boosted motor. Even under OEM power levels excessive oil temperature from this motor has oil pressure dropping into the 50 psi range. Unfortunately the FA20 series of engines do not have adequate oil pressure for substantially more power or RPM. We have tested our combination to deliver the tightest, most trouble free, and durable engine you can buy at any price.Įngine Oiling! Nothing will kill your brand new motor faster than inadequate oil pressure. All too often motors are built too loose causing lots of engine noise, too much cylinder blow-by, and major oil consumption issues. With this data we have been able to build an engine that not only makes huge power but has near OEM oil level consumption. As long as there was no component failure we would reuse the same bearings, crank, rods, block, and pistons and continue the durability testing. It was not uncommon for us to push all the extremes to find the maximum and minimum operating range of each component and it’s clearance. We would inspect items such as cylinder wear, ring wear, piston wear, oil consumption, hardware fatigue, and finally crank and rod bearing wear. Each season or sometimes midway through the season we would tear down our motors to inspect how the parts were holding up and how our building specifications were performing. The only way to have long term durability data on your engine program is to continue using the same parts. You may ask us how is this possible? It’s very common for racing teams to run new engines multiple times in a racing season but we would not allow this for our long term R&D. Our bearings and clearances have been tested for 10,000+ miles of racing. We build the best engines you can buy! We’re confident saying this as every aspect of these motors has been tested and verified under the most demanding racing circumstances.Įlement Tuning Pro Comp engines are built from 100% new components fitted to our exact standards in your provided engine. The episode follows Scully and her new partner John Doggett (Robert Patrick) on a lead to bring back Mulder. This episode is a strong mythos-based episode that blends with a Monster-of-the-Week story that starts with trying to track down Mulder after he is abducted by aliens. This episode highlights how truly spooky Mulder really can be, and how mailable his mind is. The episode takes the gargoyle from a physical beast and turns it into a creature that comes from the mind, which is a refreshing take on the creatures. Mulder confronts the true killer, but he hallucinates that he has a gargoyle's face, and shoots him before his arrest. The teenagers have their blood tested and Scully says the drug is known as ‘Purity Control’ while on the other hand, in classic Mulder fashion, he believes that the teens are actually being injected with alien DNA. After investigating the townspeople, they are led to two men who have been injecting cattle with an unknown drug. The main suspect in the town is a cult of vegetarians called the Church of the Red Museum. Mulder and Scully are summoned to a town where teenagers have been found half-naked and drugged with strange phrases written on their backs. It's disturbing and gut-wrenchingly gross, but fits the episode perfectly. It contains some of the scariest scenes in the entire series, including a fetal pig being brought to life to torture Shannon. The episode is terrifying, with extreme themes surrounding organization and the potential it has to lead to abuse. It is revealed to Mulder and Scully that the town is run by Satan worshipers. Later, Shannon (Heather McComb) the teen stepdaughter of Jim Ausbury (Dan Butler) suffers a breakdown in class, revealing that Ausbury and other school faculty members participate in ritual sacrifice and worse. The claims seem to be founded, as Mulder and Scully begin to witness biblically strange occurrences, including a frog plague and water draining the wrong way. The town insists that the true cause of the teen's death is a demonic force summoned by kids playing with things they don't understand. Mulder and Scully are brought to a small town to investigate the ritualistic death of a teenager. ![]() |
